The brothers Saúl and Benjamín are the fifth generation of vineyard owners, whose origin dates back more than a century and has been fully dedicated to the cultivation of the vineyard, generation after generation, transmitting that culture with passion.
Located in the quintessential txakoli town, i.e. Getaria, Akarregi Txiki is a traditional winery which has been making wine in this farmhouse for generations.
A new winery was set up in 1996, which in addition to its own vineyards new oenological practices have been implemented to offer top notch quality wines.
Txakoli Ugabe is the result of its own farm that has a total of 3 hectares of vineyards, winery and its own bottling plant. Its production is completely artisanal and innovative and is carried out through a laborious process that guarantees the quality of the final product.
The passion I feel for the world of wine means that, in addition to making new wines, I am always willing to travel and visit areas where I can learn and be inspired. My particular world is based in Navarra and Rioja. Navarra, where Garnatxa gives me everything and Rioja, with its countless terroirs that I am passionate about.
Andrés focuses on a continuous care of the vineyard as the origin of all good wine. For this he opted, from the beginning of this adventure a few decades ago, for biodynamic agriculture to obtain a good end such as quality wines. This has led to the fact that currently all the production, both in Rioja and Navarra region, is certified for biodynamic agriculture with the Demeter regulations.
In the year 1999, David started learning about the biodynamic philosophy and changed how he cared for his vineyards. First, he converted to organic farming and then began following tenants to recover the harmony between man, earth, vines, and cosmos. In 2014, tractors were eliminated and horses were brought back to farm the vineyards.
Only a cider with so much history can truly speak to tradition. The location of the orchards, the selection of the raw ingredients (the apples themselves), and the careful process by which we turn these elements into cider. It all requires time, dedication and experience, a painstaking process which the Astiazaran family has been careful to pass on from generation to generation.
